Catholic Charities Calls on Superheroes to Help Stop Child Abuse
Staff, board members, and volunteers of Catholic Charities, along with children from the neighboring Guadalupe Early Learning Center, and representatives of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, kicked \off Child Abuse Prevention Month on Wednesday, April 3rd at Catholic Charities’ main office.
The event, “A Call for Superheroes,” included a visit from Sasha Rasco, Chief Prevention and Community Well-Being Officer, with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) in Austin, who spoke about the services available to children and families on the South Plains. The partnership between Catholic Charities of Lubbock and TDFPS has been in place for almost 30 years and has provided free counseling and case management to thousands of children and families in Lubbock and surrounding counties.
The children of the neighoring Guadalupe Early Learning Center joined the event and partipated in a variety of interactive superhero themed activities. Superhero characters, courtesy of Lubbock Community Theater's Capes & Crowns, also visited with the children as they went through a kid-sized obstacle course.

Catholic Charities, a Lubbock Area United Way partner agency, works year-round to prevent child abuse by offering many free services and programs to families in need. In addition to free counseling, services offered by Catholic Charities include a program to help low-income parents further their education and break the cycle of poverty, emergency assistance with basic needs, elderly outreach, and resources for kinship families.
