Catholic Charities Recognizes Child Abuse Prevention Month

Catholic Charities of Lubbock recognized Child Abuse Prevention Month with a special event on Friday, April 10 calling attention to the critical role safe adults play in protecting children.

 

Catholic Charities staff were joined by children from the neighboring Guadalupe Early Learning Center for a morning of kid‑friendly activities designed to uplift, educate, and celebrate childhood. The event included hands‑on activities and a small petting zoo featuring animals from Storybook Farm, offering a joyful and welcoming environment while sparking an important conversation about prevention and support.

“Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment—and every adult has a role to play in making that happen,” said Victoria Bernal, Catholic Charities' Family and Youth Success Program Director.

 

Catholic Charities works year‑round to prevent child abuse by supporting families through free, preventative services, including parenting education, counseling, and case management for children and youth 17 and younger. These programs equip families with practical tools, emotional support, and resources to build safe, healthy homes across the 36 counties served by the agency.

 

By the numbers:

• Catholic Charities' Family and Youth Success Program has supported local families with free services for more than 30 years. 

 

• The program offers no-cost therapy services provided by licensed professional counselors and experienced case managers. 

 

• In 2025 alone, more than 1,300 children were served through Catholic Charities' Family and Youth Success and Kinship Navigation Program.
