Free Family Summer Activities Planned by Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities - Diocese of Lubbock is committed to strengthening families by providing services year-round. Because summer is an especially critical time for families, Catholic Charities will be providing several free events and activities from June through August for Lubbock and area families.
Below is a calendar of events:
- Every Saturday, June 11 through July 23 – 10 am to 11 am – Family Book Club at Catholic Charities (102 Avenue J.) Families will be provided with the opportunity to learn about diversity and how to navigate the dynamics of difference. Children ages 4-8 will have a book read to them, enjoy a family interactive activity, and get to take home a book. All ages welcome, snacks provided, and lots of giveaways!
- Thursday, June 16 – 7 to 9 pm - Summer Safety Swim Party at Maxey Pool (4007 30th Street) Families are invited to join us for swimming safety tips, food, and door prizes. Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
- Monday, June 27 – 1 to 2 pm - Levelland Youth Lunch & Learn at St. Michael’s Catholic Church (316 E. Washington Street) for ages 10 to 13 years old.
- Thursday, July 14 – Plainview Kids Summer Camp – Noon to 7:30 pm at Broadway Park (100 S. Broadway) for children 8 to 13 years old.
- Thursday, July 21 – Family Time Movie Night – 7:30 pm at Stars & Stripes Drive-In (5101 Clovis Rd) family time tips, and free snacks, movie shown will be Sing 2.
- August 9, 10 & 11 – Lubbock Kids Summer Camp – 8 am to Noon at Rawlings Community Center (213 40th Street) for children ages 6 to 12 years old. Free school supplies will be provided. Families must register for this event online at Lubbock Parks and Recreation.

The above projects are a collaborative effort of the Kinship, National Family Support Network (NFSN), and Family and Youth Support (FAYS) programs of Catholic Charities. Summer Day Camps will use an evidence-based curriculum called Rainbow Days.
Catholic Charities, a United Way partner agency, is a local organization that has several programs in place to support families and individuals. The agency serves Lubbock and 29 surrounding counties with programs that provide youth and family counseling, emergency assistance, a food pantry, family engagement activities, and resources for kinship families.
